  • SOLiD-South Mediterranean Social Dialogue

    SOLiD-South Mediterranean Social Dialogue is a pilot project for the promotion of social dialogue in the Southern Mediterranean Neighborhood. It is a three years programme (2016-2018), financed by the European Union. SOLiD brings together regional and international representatives of social partners as well as a number of relevant partners from the EU.

  • Universal Periodic Review

    Perceived as a tool for continuous monitoring and advocacy on human rights and rights-based policy changes, ANND engages in the process focusing on economic and social rights conditions and highlighting root causes of violations; fostering coalition-building and networking among civil society groups.

  • Workshop on taxation in Lebanon from a gender perspective

    On Thursday, 9 November 2017, the Arab NGO Network for Development organized a workshop on taxation in Lebanon from a gender perspective, at the Riviera Hotel, Beirut. The workshop is in the framework of ANND’s work on economic and social rights in Lebanon and the Arab region and on international human rights mechanisms, including the Universal Periodic Review and efforts to push forward the sustainable development agenda, especially the fifth goal on gender equality.

It is only the second review and just two years after the kick-off for the implementation of a universal agenda towards leaving no-one behind. Yet, time is marching on and there is a long way to go on the level of implementation.

  • Arab uprisings and Social Justice, implications of IMF subsidy reform policies

    2014/02/03

    This paper traces the evolution of IMF recommendations on fuel and food subsidies from the onset of the global financial crisis (2007-2008) through the aftermath of the 2011 Arab uprisings. During this period, the IMF has intensified its calls for the reduction of food and, in particular, fuel subsidies in the MENA. In addition to conducting a comprehensive review of IMF staff reports from 2007 to 2013, the authors of this paper interviewed representatives of over 11 development and human rights-focused organizations based in Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, and Yemen.4 By consulting civil society perspectives, this paper seeks to highlight the concerns of societies in the Arab region over the socio-economic consequences of IMF-backed subsidy reforms.

    • The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
    • The Post-2015 development agenda, next-in-line to the MDGs, will be adopted at the United Nations 

      summit that will be held from 25 to 27 September 2015. ANND actively engages with its partners in the 

      process in order to contribute to the design of effective development policies for the Arab region.

      Along its works, ANND reflects the need for transformative changes to global governance systems and to 

      national policy choices in order to overcome inequality, exclusion and vulnerability.
