  • SOLiD-South Mediterranean Social Dialogue

    SOLiD-South Mediterranean Social Dialogue is a pilot project for the promotion of social dialogue in the Southern Mediterranean Neighborhood. It is a three years programme (2016-2018), financed by the European Union. SOLiD brings together regional and international representatives of social partners as well as a number of relevant partners from the EU.

  • Universal Periodic Review

    Perceived as a tool for continuous monitoring and advocacy on human rights and rights-based policy changes, ANND engages in the process focusing on economic and social rights conditions and highlighting root causes of violations; fostering coalition-building and networking among civil society groups.

    The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a UN human rights monitoring mechanism  which involves a periodic review of the human rights records of all 193 UN Member States. This joint publication that brings together civil society submissions presented to the OHCHR concerning Lebanon was launched in a press conference organized by ANND on July 23rd in the Press Club in Beirut.

  • Comparative Study: Tax Systems in Six Arab Countries


    This paper is one in a series of papers published by the Arab NGO Network for development (ANND) as part of its work on monitoring IFIs’ policies in the Arab region. This work falls within ANND’s aims of strengthening the analysis and research on public policies in the Arab region, in addition to supporting the process of building a strong role for civil society in developing alternatives, specifically on the economic and social fronts, based on choices that are rooted in the local and national priorities and needs.

  • Why we reject the NGO draft law in Egypt?


    On November 29, 2016, the Egyptian parliament approved the draft law regulating the activity of civil organizations and institutions submitted by MP Abdul Hadi al-Qasabi on September 6, 2016. This was tantamount to a declaration of war on civil society and an attempt to crack down on all active and supportive human rights organizations.

  • سوق العمل وقضية التشغيل في لبنان


    منذ الاستقلال وإلى الآن، لم يعرف لبنان سياسة للتشغيل، لا على نحو مستقل، ولا كجزء من سياسة أو خطة اقتصادية واجتماعية عامة. وفي هذا السياق، جاءت السياسات والإجراءات، التي اندرجت بعد اتفاق الطائف تحت مسمى "مشروع النهوض الاقتصادي وإعادة الإعمار"، مسكونة بهم وحيد وهو استعادة وتحديث نمط النمو الذي كان سائدا قبل الحرب، والقائم على الوساطة وإنتاج الخدمات لحساب الداخل العربي. لم تتضمن هذه السياسات بالتالي، أي حيز مستقل لمعالجة القضايا الاجتماعية بما فيها قضية التشغيل.

  • Arab uprisings and Social Justice, implications of IMF subsidy reform policies


    This paper traces the evolution of IMF recommendations on fuel and food subsidies from the onset of the global financial crisis (2007-2008) through the aftermath of the 2011 Arab uprisings. During this period, the IMF has intensified its calls for the reduction of food and, in particular, fuel subsidies in the MENA. In addition to conducting a comprehensive review of IMF staff reports from 2007 to 2013, the authors of this paper interviewed representatives of over 11 development and human rights-focused organizations based in Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, and Yemen.4 By consulting civil society perspectives, this paper seeks to highlight the concerns of societies in the Arab region over the socio-economic consequences of IMF-backed subsidy reforms.

  • The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
  • The Post-2015 development agenda, next-in-line to the MDGs, will be adopted at the United Nations 

    summit that will be held from 25 to 27 September 2015. ANND actively engages with its partners in the 

    process in order to contribute to the design of effective development policies for the Arab region.

    Along its works, ANND reflects the need for transformative changes to global governance systems and to 

    national policy choices in order to overcome inequality, exclusion and vulnerability.
