ANND at the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings 2025
The Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND) participated in the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings 2025, contributing to global debates on debt justice, taxation, and economic reform, and advancing civil society perspectives from the Arab region.
Throughout the Meetings, ANND co-organized and participated in several key sessions addressing inequality, reconstruction finance, and the concentration of wealth and power. These engagements took place within the framework of the Civil Society Policy Forum (CSPF), as well as through independent side events.
Key sessions included:
Civil Society Policy Forum: Who Owns Reconstruction? Rethinking IFI-led Reconstruction Finance in Conflict-Affected States
Organized by the Arab Watch Coalition (AWC) and partners, on Tuesday, 14 October 2025.
Hassan Sherry, ANND’s Consultant on Debt and Tax Issues, participated as a panelist, sharing insights on the challenges of international financial institution-led reconstruction models and proposing alternative, rights-based approaches for conflict-affected contexts.
Civil Society Policy Forum: Extreme Wealth – How Much Is Too Much? A New Measure for Better Economies, Democracies, and Societies
Organized by Oxfam and partners, on Wednesday, 15 October 2025.
Independent Side Event: Wealth, Power, and Democracy: A Political Agenda to Rein in Extreme Wealth
Organized by ICRICT and partners, on Wednesday, 15 October 2025.
Alongside these engagements, ANND officially launched its Debt and Tax Justice Project, including a dedicated microsite that brings together key research papers, policy analyses, and advocacy resources on debt sustainability, fiscal justice, and fair taxation in the Arab region.
The project aims to strengthen evidence-based advocacy and amplify regional voices within global economic policy debates, particularly those shaping the agendas of international financial institutions.
