Brief : Dr Hisham Salaheldin is an environmental expert bridging science, policy, and practice to advance sustainability, climate adaptation, and peacebuilding in fragile contexts. He serves as Director of the Institute of Environmental Studies at the University of Khartoum, with over 25 years of experience in environmental research and consultancy. He holds a Ph.D. in Animal Production from the University of Khartoum, complemented by extensive professional development in environmental science and climate policy, including programs on climate finance, biodiversity restoration, risk management, emergency preparedness, and climate negotiations.He has strong experience in applied research and consultancy, having coordinated and led major Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) across Sudan’s infrastructure, mining, and energy sectors. He has also contributed to the CEWARN initiative on environmental conflict risks under IGAD. His project engagement includes Sudan’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Readiness Programme implemented by FAO, as well as RUS and SudaNext, which focus on advancing the water–energy–food nexus transition in Sudan.He is actively engaged in civil society platforms such as SSMO and regularly participates in climate negotiations and forums under the UNFCCC, promoting inclusive, data-driven sustainability solutions.
