Brief : Associate Professor of Sociology, Race and Ethnic Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies at St. Olaf College. Before joining St. Olaf, she served as the Acting Director of the United Nations University/ International Leadership Institute, as well as a Program Director at the Jordanian National Commission for Women. Al-Atiyat received her PhD from Freie Universitaet in Berlin/Germany and completed her post-doctoral work in Sweden at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute and in the U.S at the Kettering Foundation for Deliberative Democracy. Al-Atiyat’s research focuses on social movements and gender issues. Her recent book is "The Uprisings and Gender Equity in the Arab World" published by the Arab Network for the Study of Democracy and the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy at the American University of Beirut.
