Oral statement delivered during the UPR Jordan Working Group Report adoption at 40th Regular Session of Human Rights Council
Following a joint submission on human rights conditions in Jordan, for its 3rd cycle review that took place in November 2018, ANND, CIVICUS and Phenix Center delivered an oral statement during the adoption of the UPR Working Group Report of Jordan. The statement welcomes the recommendations accepted by Jordan but raises concerns on the lack of explicit commitment to review legislation that impose unnecessary and disproportionate restrictions on freedom of expression, state controls on CSOs’ registration, funding and activities as well as the need to consider and integrate people’s calls and demands reflected in the regular protests have been staged calling for rights-based social and economic reforms.
