Press Release | Rebuilding Water Justice in Lebanon: Governance, Accountability, and the Future of Water

The  Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND), the Arab Reform Initiative (ARI), the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) at the American University of Beirut, the Nature Conservation Center (NCC), and the Lebanese Water Actors Platform (LEWAP) convened a full-day conference entitled "Rebuilding Water Justice in Lebanon: Governance, Accountability, and the Future of Water."

The conference brought together researchers, practitioners, municipal actors, farmers, journalists, and development partners to discuss Lebanon's water crisis through the lens of water justice, highlighting governance failures, environmental degradation, climate change, conflict, and the need for accountable and equitable water governance.

"Achieving water justice in Lebanon requires governance reform, stronger public institutions, and collaboration between civil society, researchers, and affected communities."

The press release summarizes the conference discussions, the key messages delivered during the three thematic sessions, and the recommendations put forward by the organizing partners for advancing a rights-based, equitable, and sustainable water future in Lebanon.
