Brief : Dr. Neda Zawahri is a professor in the Department of Political Science at Cleveland State University. She studies environmental politics and environmental security in the Middle East and South Asia. Zawahri’s current research agenda focuses on water security in conflict-affected areas, adapting to climate change in the Middle East, the role of institutions in governing transboundary water resources, and the political economy of water management. Zawahri regularly advises governments, NGOs, international institutions, and think tanks, in particular in the Middle East and South Asia, about transnational and national water politics, water security in conflict zones, and adapting to climate change. Over the past 20 years, Zawahri has conducted field research in the Middle East and South Asia, published many articles and book chapters, and co-edited three special issues on the management of transboundary rivers. She recently published an edited book titled: "The Role of Formal and Informal Institutions in Managing Transboundary Basins." Zawahri’s articles have appeared in international relations and environmental politics journals, such as Journal of Peace Research, International Studies Quarterly, Foreign Policy, Global Environmental Politics, and International Environmental Agreements. She serves on the editorial board of the journal Environment and Security and the Studies in Peace, Conflict, and Development book series that is published by Anthem Press. Zawahri completed her doctoral studies at the University of Virginia.
